It is common to receive comments from readers wondering when the public a photo where it appears someone wearing a suit without a belt, in most of the time they are complaining that the lack makes the costume look incomplete.
I’m not going to lie, many times I like the finish that the accessory provides to the look, but on certain occasions, really makes you want to create something more clean and beltless (“no belt”, in English) is a way extra to give a cleaned in the visual.
Just to clarify, the idea is not new, the men wear the costume of the social thus there is a lot of time, very same! Questions? Then think of suspenders and how they were ubiquitous in the past, no one felt that there was a strip of leather across the waist of the gentleman.
Trousers adjusters* and nothing more!
But it is also possible to use the tailored trousers, be it part of a suit or not, without any kind of accessory, ensuring that it stays in place, provided that it is endowed with a detail called “trouser adjuster” or “martingale” which is waist high and allows you to fine-tune it so that it is not falling. This feature is usually formed by a strip of the same fabric of the pants and a buckle or button that allows adjustment.
In the case of the buckles the adjustment is more accurate, since it is only to adjust the pants until you have it exactly in your size, and the buttons offer just 2 or 3 adjustments then you must hope that they are sufficient, on the other hand I find them most charming, especially the leather.
Many pants tuxedo bring two straps adjust in the back, as well as the buttons for use with suspenders, since they do not use the safety belt under the cummerbund, the satin band used in the waist. This model of pants is known as the fishtail (pictured above).
Note: when using the complete outfit (jacket, pants and vest) the absence of the belt is more difficult to be noticed, because the shirt helps block the vision of the waist.
Beltless in casual fashion
In the 90’s was pretty common to wear jeans without any belt or with suspenders, regardless of the outcome to be good or bad, just watch a few episodes of the second season of Seinfeld to prove. Currently the belt is also a way to show style and make the look more relaxed, but still there are fans of the beltless, the only problem is to find a pair of pants that will serve perfectly to the point that there is no concern that she will end up on your knees.
Note: it is important to note that without the belt the casual look always still seems more casual, so do not dismiss the accessory if the intention is to be informal, but aligned.
The English name is rough, but it seems that the staff does not care much for the classifications are more elaborate, especially those of French origin as the term “martingale”, very used by the fashion professionals, on the other hand this name is also given to a device like that is part of horse harness, may use “trouser adjuster” to not confuse the head of the cowboys and jockeys.
